Lighting recees (black and white)




Only the first recee has ended up being used in my short film. The low-key light created by the black and white effect added in post production contrasts with the high-key, natural light used for the majority of the film. The introduction of black and white and lowkey light symbolises the film becoming darker as the characters enter the courtyard. Technically, it also helps explain that the audience are now watching the film through the characters' POV.

'THE FLY' SHORT FILM  'The Fly' is a 6 minute short film about a getaway driver who awaits a bank robbery. He tries to focus but the appearance of a fly makes his wait become increasingly intensified.  The film is set in a car outside a bank. Various props such as doughnuts, coffee cups, masks, a knife, and a gun are used by the man to get rid of the fly. As the film proceeds, each object becomes more intense, and he ends up shooting a bullet through the window of the car to get rid of the fly. He holds a tooth pick in his mouth, which slightly foreshadows the fact that it will later end up injuring him; fake blood is then introduced in the film, and the situation is therefore intensified. The use of the airbag at one point also makes the setting smaller and the man has less space, which adds another element of stress to the situation. 'THE OPERATOR' SHORT FILM

'THE OPERATOR' SHORT FILM Sound and editing are used effectively in this short film. At the beginning, the diegetic sound of the emergency service operator's voices overlap each other which creates an atmospheric feeling as we watch the film. The average shot length is long which makes us as an audience focus on the voices of the operator and Gemma, who is stuck in a house fire with her three year old son. If jump cuts were used, it would be harder to focus on their voices because we would have more of a visual distraction on screen. Close ups on the operator's face create a sense of intimacy and tension, as well as the continuous stress we feel and share as audience members, waiting for the firemen to arrive; for the whole five minutes, we are focussed on the face of one character and one situation with a panicked character on the other end of the phone - the fact that we can't actually see what is happening means we have to concentrate more on sound. Research into target audience

My target audience is an audience of the age of the characters in my short film; the film is directed at teenagers. My film consists of elements similar to the Blair Witch Project ; a film about three film students who travel to a small town to collect documentary footage about the Blair Witch. Their film footage is found, and the film consists of the audience watching their footage. The film makers used social media to access their target audience. 67% of social media users are 18-29, therefore social media is a good place to advertise this film. My film is more light hearted and less scary than the Blair Witch Project , and the element of horror only really comes in at the end, therefore people who would probably be interested in my film would be of the age between 13-18.
