My Media Blogpost

• Where do you watch films?
Frequently I watch films at home, either on the television with my parents or alone, or on an iPad alone. Sometimes, I go to the cinema to watch films; I either go to Peckham Plex or the Dulwich Picture House. If I go with my parents I always go to the Dulwich Picture House, but sometimes, when I'm with my friends, I go to the Peckham Plex because it is £5 cheaper.
• What devices do you use to watch films? How does this change the viewing experience?
If I'm not at the cinema, I either use the television, an iPad, or a bigger, projector screen in my house. I rarely watch films on a laptop, because I don't own one, so I would have to be at a friends house. The projector is definitely more atmospheric, because of the wider picture and the louder sound, so the viewing experience is more effective. The television is smaller so the viewing experience is less effective, but the television gives a wider picture and more sound than the iPad. However, I feel with the iPad, the screen is closer to me, so I find the picture on the screen is better quality.
• Are there certain films you prefer to see at the cinema? If so which?
I don't really have a preference, but I prefer to see films which are very popular with audiences, or a thriller of some kind. I like comedies too, but I don't really enjoy seeing romantic comedies that aren't that funny; which I could easily see at home and switch off if I was getting bored. I also really like seeing sequels and the last film of a trilogy, because it makes it more exciting if I know I will enjoy it, because I enjoyed the other films.
• With whom do you watch films?
I usually watch films with my parents, or a group of friends, or just one friend.
• What attracted you to the film? Why did they choose to see it? (The social aspect of watching a film is important as it can affect your attitude towards it. Have you been ‘pressured’ into seeing a film you weren’t interested in by a friend etc?). Is it a hotly anticipated film (i.e. Star Wars Episode VIII) or one that only serves a niche audience?
I went to see the 15:17 to Paris. The trailer attracted me to the film; it looked exciting, and it didn't give much away. I went with two friends and we chose to see it, because it was a rainy day and there wasn't much to do, but we really felt like going to the cinema. A family friend told us that he really recommended we saw it, and told us a part of the plot, then refused to tell us anything, because he wanted us to see it for ourselves. This made my attitude towards the film a good one. It wasn't a hotly anticipated film, because the day I went to see it was the first day I had heard about it.
• How did you respond to the film? Was it a spectacle, moving, frightening etc.?
The film was moving, however frightening during the close terrorist attack scene. Most of all, I found the film, tense, but in an enjoyable way, because of the scenes of the characters in the army / airforce, and also the scene on the train with the characters dealing with the terrorist.

Following our trips to the Ritzy and the IMAX. Discuss the recent changes to digital projection.
CGI has improved; it was amazing in Blade Runner. The projection has also improved visually with the help of 3D. The huger screens also enhance projection (the IMAX). We saw a film about a documentary at the Ritzy; a variety of films are getting shown.
