NOTES AND ANALYSIS OF 6 FRAMES OF SLAP Directed by Nick Rowland, ‘The Slap’ is a short film about a teenage boxer, Connor (Joe Cole), who secretly cross-dresses, and has difficulty keeping this secret interest from his girlfriend, Lola (Skye Lourie), best friend (Elliot Tittensor), and father, George (Stephen Bent). Connor exposes his secret to Archie when he saves him from getting beaten up, and runs out to help him in a dress and makeup. Research into target audience

My target audience is an audience of the age of the characters in my short film; the film is directed at teenagers. My film consists of elements similar to the Blair Witch Project ; a film about three film students who travel to a small town to collect documentary footage about the Blair Witch. Their film footage is found, and the film consists of the audience watching their footage. The film makers used social media to access their target audience. 67% of social media users are 18-29, therefore social media is a good place to advertise this film. My film is more light hearted and less scary than the Blair Witch Project , and the element of horror only really comes in at the end, therefore people who would probably be interested in my film would be of the age between 13-18.

'THE OPERATOR' SHORT FILM

'THE OPERATOR' SHORT FILM Sound and editing are used effectively in this short film. At the beginning, the diegetic sound of the emergency service operator's voices overlap each other which creates an atmospheric feeling as we watch the film. The average shot length is long which makes us as an audience focus on the voices of the operator and Gemma, who is stuck in a house fire with her three year old son. If jump cuts were used, it would be harder to focus on their voices because we would have more of a visual distraction on screen. Close ups on the operator's face create a sense of intimacy and tension, as well as the continuous stress we feel and share as audience members, waiting for the firemen to arrive; for the whole five minutes, we are focussed on the face of one character and one situation with a panicked character on the other end of the phone - the fact that we can't actually see what is happening means we have to concentrate more on sound.
